How to spot loan scams and phishing
Updated October 21, 2026 · 5 min read
Common warning signs of loan scams and fake payment requests, how LoanEase contacts you, and where to report fraud in the US and Canada.
Scammers often pose as lenders, or as your lender, to get money or personal information. Knowing the warning signs is the best protection.
Warning signs
- A promise of approval “guaranteed” or “regardless of credit” before anyone has reviewed your information.
- A request to pay a fee, deposit or “insurance” up front before you can receive a loan.
- Pressure to act immediately, or threats if you don't.
- Requests to pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency or wire transfers to a person.
- Messages from personal email addresses, or web addresses that are slightly misspelled.
- A request for your password, a one-time sign-in code, or your full ID number by text or phone.
Payment-change scams
A common trick is a message that looks like it's from your lender saying the payment account has changed. Always be suspicious of any request to send money somewhere new, especially if it arrives by text, phone or social media.
How LoanEase contacts you
- We send email only from addresses ending in @loanease.top.
- We send payment details privately by email after your loan is funded, and we will never ask you to pay a different account by text, phone or social media.
- We never charge a fee to apply or to receive your loan, and we never ask for your password or sign-in codes.
- If anything looks different, contact support@loanease.top before you pay.
If you think you've been targeted
- Stop contact and don't send any more money or information.
- Contact your bank right away if you shared account details or sent a payment.
- Change your passwords and turn on two-factor authentication where you can.
- In the US, report it to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
- In Canada, report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca) and your local police.
